nett Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 This thread is worthless without photos. I wager you pair of tongs will soon be you favorite and you will fondly remember every hammer mark. Good going. Quote
Frosty Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Congratulations! A pair of tongs is a heck of a first project, most folk start out with "S" hooks and the like. Pictures please. Frosty Quote
Alan B Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Congratulations and welcome to the dark side... LOL Quote
simmonds Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 I remember my first pair of tongs. Due to the only material I had at hand and to the fact that I knew nothing about different steels at the time, I constructed them out of re-bar. I must have spent 8 hours trying to get the two halves to conform. Punching the holes and constructing a usable rivet was another issue. After much frustration and a lot of four letter words, I finished them...and they seemed to be working pretty well. I was kind of proud of myself. The next day after quenching a project I was holding them with, they cracked and broke in three places around the jaws. :( Quote
Hephaestus Posted May 3, 2008 Author Posted May 3, 2008 i'll try to get some pictures up soon. they aren't the most attractive pair of tongs, but they will pick up a RR spike easy enough and i aim for that to be my first knife-related project. Quote
Mende Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Hehehe . .everyone's treating this like it was ure first grl ..which isn;t far off. ..considering the time, pain, money and feeling u put into going this far!) Quote
Hephaestus Posted May 4, 2008 Author Posted May 4, 2008 it actually kinda reminds me of that. i was nervous and excited, and kinda worried about how it would turn out... and also it seems kinda like that because the first one wasn't so great and i think i have alot to learn. haha! Quote
