JBell Posted December 20, 2017 Author Posted December 20, 2017 Just got my Great Grandfather’s anvil. Trying to find out more about it. Quote
Black Frog Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 Can you post a picture of the side logo stamp, and the serial number? I'd like to add it to the A&H logo database. Quote
JBell Posted December 20, 2017 Author Posted December 20, 2017 Can do. Thank you for your reply. Quote
JBell Posted December 21, 2017 Author Posted December 21, 2017 Photos requested: The logo very hard to see. I believe it says: WARRANTED SOLID WROUGHT Can clearly see the hammer in hand. Quote
Black Frog Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Fantastic, thanks for the pics! That is the 2nd style of logo stamp that A&H used in production. And that is the first time I've seen an upside down arm logo on an A&H anvil. Cool! Quote
JBell Posted December 21, 2017 Author Posted December 21, 2017 Thank you for your interest and the information. Appreciate it. Quote
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Good looking anvil. Especially with family history with it. Do you plan on using it? BTW: If you edit your profile to show your location it will help with answers that are location dependent, like the value of anvils. Quote
Lionel h Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Good looking heirloom don’t ever get rid of ,except to pass it down . I’ve got my grandfathers mouse hole anvil , I do use it lightly but I do most of my work on a sisco supreme cause it has no value to me but a nice tool . Papaws anvil will only leave my place when I pass it down to my family , I pray that value it as much as I do. Quote
JBell Posted December 22, 2017 Author Posted December 22, 2017 IronDragon, I don’t even know how to use it. But I did crack rocks on it 60 years ago. I would eventually like to learn how to put it to proper use in some of my projects. I’m building a claw hammer banjo now, not much use for an anvil. Lionel, I’m with you. I will keep it till I pass it down to my son(s). Looking forward to making a stand and mounting it. Then I might just sit and look at it for a while and remember working on my grandfathers farm. thank you for your posts, interest and help. Quote
