Hammer info

Featured Replies

While I was buying my post vise the lady that ran the lot tossed in a loose hammer head.

I took some photos of it a the marks on it. The taper to the striking face makes me think it is not a sledge.

Have a look at the photos. Any info about it and advise about uses for it would be appreciated.

Handle advise would be a help as well.

Thanks for looking.

Sort of looks like the ones used for dog spikes, but the taper isn't quite long enough.

My guess is that it is a stone mason's hammer/sledge.

I have a single jack of about 3lbs. with a similar head but don't know of a specific reason for the profile. I put it on a drill hammer length handle and it is nice for reaching into deeper spots. Otherwise it's a nice sized lb. single jack hammer.

I take it the 8 on yours indicates 8lbs. or heaven's forbid 8kg. Double jacks in either case. Nice looking hammer head.
