Post vise for me.

Featured Replies

As I said In the it followed  me home post, I was at a used mining equipment yard today.

Got a vise and a 8 lb sledge head.

It has smooth jaws that are 4 1/4 inch. The spring seems good and the hinge looks tight.

Here are some photos.

The close up is of the only mark I can find. Looks to be made in China. It will suffice for me to get started with.

Thanks for looking

Mel

Probably "COLOMBIAN" and "OHIO". The Colombian Vise and Manufacturing Company was based in Cleveland, OH and was a pretty major manufacturer of all manner of vises.

Thanks for the info. That makes me feel better.

Will look for more information on line.

Congrats on the find.  The only good advice I've learned about post vises is to check for wear (thickness) on the threads inside.  Then apply lubrication of choice.  There is a pretty strong ongoing debate between grease supporters, those who favor oil, and the more elusive graphite/powdered lubricant wonks.  It's not my fight.

To day I made a temporary stand to use the vise.

Have a look.

Actually, Indian Cheif was made by Columbus Forge and Iron Co. (The brand that made Trenton anvils.) Columbian is a completely different company.

My mistake, i wanted to say it is the same style

as a columbian vise.
