brianstucker
I've been reading and studying Jim Batson's book. Instead of making a 24.5 ton press I want to build a 49 ton press.I have a question. If I use 2 cylinders. Would I have to double the Hp? Thanks
Judson Yaggy
Broadly speaking to get the same performance yes. Note that Baston's book is a little dated at this point, the higher end press builders are now going for more speed than he generally advocates, which also requires more power. brianstucker
I appreciate the info. Does anybody know what size pumps are on these built by Carolina Knives,
brianstucker
What single stage pump could I run on with a 10 hp 1700-1800 rpm's. And get descent speed out of the ram. Maybe 1.5-2 ips. Thanks.
tdriack
Try these formulas: Speed for a hydraulic motor Horsepower for a hydraulic motor Pumps - Power Calculator
BeaverNZ
The number of rams used in your press does not effect the tonnage produced, the tonnage is from the TOTAL AREA of the ram or rams pistons pushing in the direction of the load and the pressure of the oil pumped. the speed comes from the volume of oil pumped. You could get thousands of tons from a 1/4 hp motor power pack but it would be extremely slow, thats just a silly example.Tonage and speed require Hp Cheers Beaver
