no ball bearings handy so i used a hammer and rebound was 90% and the ring was very long and loud so i bought it for $250, probably too much but every anvil within 400 miles is made of gold around here. it looks like it spent the last few decades in a field

the surface looks like it spent some time at the bottom of the ocean so its gonna be interesting how well it cleans up.

Oops.....

Not what I was thinking nor looking for.

My apologies.

Thought I'd found a "anvil check" concerning the recent hurricane Matthew.

You know...."is everyone's anvil on east coast ok "?????

As a side note; I believe that popular auction site on eBay that sells anvils/forges/tongs for super high dollar sandblasts everything and wipe them down with a wax

That seems to be working for them as folks be figting over their items.

You, sir, would be wrong. Steve P. has minions who may pressure wash grungy items, then lightly wire brush them with side grinders, and I might believe a scotchbrite finish. First, do no harm, and sandblasting would definitely smear any makers logos or tool marks. When he started out, he did it all himself. Heckova nice guy to talk to, shows up at ABANA cons and QuadState with a double axle trailer full of drool-worthy goodies.

update

its not in as bad of shape as i thought, just a combo of dirt and rust.

once if get the forge working and a stand ill start cleaning the face the fun way.

minions. LOL Little yellow guys. I had a shop blast one of mine. Not sure but perhaps it was walnut hull? Nice and clean and adding some oil on it ,,,,,it looks like Steve's work. Or, rather, his minions.

Cue  "If I had a minion!" as sung to "If I was a Rich Man"......."I wouldn't have to work hard............."
