Ferrous Beuler
Hi Friends, Any of you good folks know where we could buy some HC RR spikes for our high school blacksmithing class out here in Hawaii? Need about 30. Thanks, PhilAloha Phil, I was on Oahu from '86 through '89 and I recall there was only one rail line on the island, a narrow gauge that ran from somwhere around Pearl City out to Lualualei. Is it still running? Perhaps a stroll along this line could yield some castoffs. Or, find the yard if the company still exists and ask for some. Dan:)
ThomasPowers
Phill it's good to hear that contention; however almost all my USPS sent boxes have been totally destroyed and that includes the ones where I built a wooden box to fit inside the postal box and packed that solid to boot. I never leave slide or squish room. I triple or quadruple wrap things in cardboard and any point or "edge" gets a layer of something that it cannot penetrate even when dropped from 10' on a concrete floor. (I used to work at a place where I had to build custom boxes to ship fragile items by commercial freight.) And I still have to individually label everything so when the boxes are shredded the pieces get where they are supposed to go. In my experience the USPS is not set up to deal with heavy packages; but it's pretty much the only game in town out where I live. The local post office is great to work with and have started completely strapping my priority mail boxes at the very start! But I never did recover the 6 1" dia x 1' long pieces of wrought iron I lost in the mail before I learned to individually label stuff. It was also amusing when a friend sent me 2 34# steel rounds in a 70# max box. He did individually label them but only about 10% of the box was left when they arrived---the rest was an amazing ammount of tape!
