orchardtown forge
Moving house, got a big hot tub with three massive motors and water pumps. Would they be any use in the construction of an electro-hydraulic press? frank
Michael Cochran
What are the motors specs? Without knowing that it'll be difficult to get an answer.
Anachronist58
As in using water pumps to move hydraulic fluid?
Frosty
Sure, how much do you want to spend on hydraulic cylinders? High volume low pressure will develop plenty of pressure if the slave cylinder has enough area. For an extreme example 1 psi. over 100,000 sq/in. develops 100,000lbs of force at what ever feed rate the pumps can supply. Heck, if you use water soluble oil in the water a leak won't be toxic and a 1psi leak won't slice you like balogna. Practical? Run the numbers and see: First how much psi the pumps deliver. How much pressure you need. lastly what's it going to cost to have press cylinders large enough to develop that pressure made. IF you can afford cylinders THAT large it's time to start considering what making that beast will cost and don't forget floor space. Sure it's possible, almost anything CAN be made to work. Worth it?
