I am in my daily life self employed and i have a metal shop witch i make light construction and i made certified welding ( pipe welding) I make also traditonal forge for small boats who are here in Holland Monumental from small hooks , rings Cestauration katrol eyes and many more. Read the stickies at the beginning of the sections on the site, They have much of the information you seek. Go to the section that interested you and read the section. It will give you many ideas and answer many of your questions. If you have any questions or need something explained, just ask. Someone will provide an answer.
