iron+carbon
Just found this today. It was painted and I wire brushed and oiled it. The only marking I can see is the raised 8 underneath the horn. There is 2 handling holes, one under horn and the heel. Any help will be appreciated.
Frosty
Not a Fisher, it looks colonial era to me. Do you have a pic of the notch in the heal?Frosty The Lucky.

iron+carbon
That's what I was hoping. Thanks for the replies. Nice anvil Justin. I apologize for huge pictures, I'm still trying to figure out how to post normal sized ones.

DSW
I don't think I've seen a Fisher with handling holes before. I'll be curious what Josh's take on this is.Justin, does your 1850s Fisher pre eagle have the holes in the waist? I can't tell from your pict. njanvilman
It a FISHER. Not a colonial. Probably from early 1860's. The "handling holes" were pivot points for the mounting the anvil to a fixture for grinding the conical horn. I believe that AIA has some diagrams of this grinder.Well used obviously, with the obvious missing parts. The 8 indicated that it started its life as approx 80 lb. iron+carbon
Thanks for the confirmation Josh. I'm glad I took a chance on this anvil and that it was identified so quickly. Amazingly even after the tremendous beating that it took, it still has about a 70% rebound.
