Bear Knifes
Hello, About two years back I made a forge and use grade 8 bolts. I have recently realized that they were zinc plated. So I took them off and went to the hardware store and got some stainless bolts. My question is are stainless bolts coated with anything that may be dangerous? Thanks. SpankySmith
Wouldn't the zinc have burned off by now? Yes, I know burning off zinc is a no-no, but if they were exposed to heat over two years is replacing them now necessary? I'm just thinking out loud, I'm sure someone else will chime in. Bear Knifes
Thanks for replying spankysmith, but I have already replaced them but haven't fired the forge up with the new bolts in it yet.
Charles R. Stevens
I wouldnt think so, they have likely been pickled to remove any contaminents

Nobody Special
It's fine. At this point, your old ones were fine.
