So I ended up with 6' of 1.75" stainless. I have ZERO experience with this stuff and couldn't even begin to figure it which type of stainless it is. It is pretty much non magnetic, heavy, and pretty hard. One end has a keyway milled in, so it was on equipment of some sort. It's also got surface rust on most of the shaft, but no pitting. Anyway..looking for ideas as to what I should use this for. Hammers maybe? Is there any real need for stainless hammers? Help me out :-\

Hey, I need the least complicated way to build a stainless steel hollow ball with a large radius. Like the one in the image. Can I get some ideas?

S30V with 3D printed cast bronze, CNCed dyed stabilized burl, and copper pins. It's been years since I've worked in stainless at all - I love forging too much - but this customer was adamant. The handle pattern is supposed to resemble paracord wrapping. I'm going to engrave his name on the blade, removing the oxidization where the text is.

Does anyone have experience with the 420 ear stainless steel (it is remelted 420 for making molds)? I was given a good amount of this and was wondering if it is possible to forge properly (for knives and other tools). I was working with a small piece about 2" thick and 6" long and it is very tough to forge. It eventually ended up cracking. If anyone has any advice or procedures , it would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I need help with pricing this knife. I was asking $800 but I think I may be way overshooting the value of the knife. 440c Stainless steel Nickel silver bolster and pommel Mammoth tooth handle Roughly 10-15 hours of work. Material cost and heat treat was around $300, and I usually ask $20/hour for labor, which brings me to $600-$800 for the knife. I know there are some minor imperfections in the blade and accents, but I don't know that they drive value down a whole lot so I'm looking for some pricing advice. Did I waste my money/time/effort by putting a mammoth tooth handle on a 440c

I was given this little tank and am interested in possibly trying to use it to make a small propane forge. It is about 11.5" long and 7.5" diameter. There's already a port about 2" from one end that a burner could probably be easily inserted into. I want to try to use it mainly to make small pw billets for jewelry/decorational pieces... and if I get the nerves, maybe even a small knife in the not-too-far future. And maybe even other non pw small projects. Now the questions...lol: 1. Would 1" of kaowool be sufficient? that would leave me about a 5" diameter space... the 2" I see recomm

Hello, About two years back I made a forge and use grade 8 bolts. I have recently realized that they were zinc plated. So I took them off and went to the hardware store and got some stainless bolts. My question is are stainless bolts coated with anything that may be dangerous? Thanks.

I recently heard that industry metalworkers, on their lunchbreaks would make small toys for their families purely out of building layers of mig wire. I've been trying it myself and have made a few coil pots but can't find any images or information about the history. Does anyone know anywhere I may be able to kickstart my research. Many thanks, Josh
