caintuckrifle
In this video by Daniel lea six minutes in you can see a post vise that appears to have plates on either side. Is this someone's modification for a certain task or is this a special sort of vise? If so what is it called and what is it used for? Many thanks, caintuckrifle https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TbyTYTU1Qlg
jeremy k
Looks like its normal to me beside having a third rivet on the taller plates in a row vs. the two rivets on my shorter plates. Edit: After going to look at mine - I realized I got rid of that vice for a better one. A lot of the side plates for the pivot bolt are forge welded to the leg half of the vise. That may have been a repair due to failed forge welds??? hard to say.
John McPherson
German style vise. the heavy side plates keep the jaws from wracking out of alignment, but do tend to get in the way of long work held upright.
