FlyingXS
I am curious as to how to forge a simple padlock. Is there any good free online tutorials? I would like to see what is involved and how difficult it is to do as it may be beyond my current skills.

Judson Yaggy
If you want good it may not be free. Look into getting the book "The Spruce Forge Manual of Locksmithing" http://www.amazon.com/The-Spruce-Forge-Manual-Locksmithing/dp/0615118224 Locksmithing can be as simple or as advanced as you want it to be. Nick
Locks are fun, and have a lot of variety. Some types are more complex than others. Get an idea of the different mechanisms found in old padlocks, there's a lot of info out there. A quick search turned up:

There is a man named detwiler who has a book on wood locks and you can find some pattern out of that on line. The modern master's of locks is Tom Latanee and Peter Ross.
