December 12, 200817 yr I was puttering around my shop this morning and had taken a 14" piece of 1" sq. stock and heated it up, set it on the anvil to warm it and went on with my business, I leaned over the anvil, set my hand on the piece a good 20 minutes later, and the smell of burning leather and plastic, (mechanics gloves) arrived at almost the same time the zing hit my hand, scrambling to tear the xxxxxx thing off, I put my hand in the semi frozen quench tub, now I have a couple nice blister forming after taking a chunk of ice and holding it for about 20 minutes, and applying some aloe gel, looks like I won't be swinging a hammer for a while, just not my week this week I guess!! Bummer is, the guys are coming over tomorrow for our monthly meeting, aggg!
December 12, 200817 yr This remedy wasn't exactly for a burn situation but.. I had cut through the back of my thumb, between the first and second knuckles. Right through the tendon too.. ouch. Anyway, the "Z" shaped scar left from my knife and the doctors knife meant quite a bit of scar tissue. One of the nurses told me to go and buy some vitamin E in gel capsules. Just Break one open and apply to the scarred area and it really helps keep the scar tissue formation minimal. Should work for burns too. I may not be an experienced blacksmith, but injuries?... I'm an expert!
December 14, 200817 yr i have also heard the vitamin e thing. It worked ok for some of the other scars i've had. as for not ive been keeping the burn covered with neosporin. seems to be healing nicely (pussing quite a bit) but healing
