JimsShip
This incredible bike has been on display at the hospital I work at for awhile now, but I just got the opportunity to grab some pictures of it. I beleive it's on loan from the Farmer's Museum in Cooperstown. (Where I got my first taste of Blacksmithing.) I tried to get some good shots of the details (Like the acorn pedal weights, and the braking system) but it's encased in a plexi glass case, so I had some problems with reflections. If you can't tell from the pics, everything you see is made of metal. I'm sure there was something covering the seat and wheel rims at one point in time, but now it's a bare metal. It'd probably kill you trying to ride it, but it's still an awesome looking project!
iron woodrow
solid frame too, imagine the weight! no tubular frames in the bone shaker days! i have one of those on my forging bucket list....
JimsShip
I actually hadn't thought of that. This must have been a workout on hills, no gearing system, one speed, all muscle power.
bikecopXXX
i'm all about single speeds, but this is ridiculous! many clever details on this bike.
SpankySmith
Believe it or not I actually owned a very similar one many years ago, picked it up at an out of the way antique shop in Tennessee. Held onto it for years until poor college student financial pressure had me selling it. I REALLY wish I'd held onto it!
Nick
I'm guessing there was nothing on the wheels, at least. Some of those old bone skakers had wooden wheels with iron tires.
Farmall
An original Fixie! Couldn't imagine going down a steep hill on that one!
beammeupscotty
Love the way the seat is mounted on a long leaf spring.
iron woodrow
it has a rear brake, but the pull rope is not attached. that would make hill descents a bit easier, but it is only a leather or wooden "spoon" rubbing on the rear wheel
