DoubleD
Picked up a 6" leg vice at the 127 Yard Sale. In real good shape for as old as it must be especially. The only markings I can find on it are the numbers "2996" above the screw. it has the "V" style bracket. Any ideas of its origins? Thanks. Crazy Ivan
Pictures might help. often times the brackets may be interchanged, replaced, or forged new on old post vises. There are many other features of a vise that might help someone on here tell you what you have with pictures.

njanvilman
Very few post vises are marked by manufacturer.

ThomasPowers
I've seen the date and the weight stamped there before and on one vise a whole lot of stuff about Columbian etc Cleveland Oh, on the back of the back jaw
DoubleD
I've not weighted it yet but it feels heavier than my 120# anvil. It's all I can do to carry it! Of course it matters not who made it, only that it operates correctly, and it does. I'm just curious if there might be history.
