Source for 1/8 white or ivory LINEN micarta?

Featured Replies

None of my regular sources still sell the LINEN in white or ivory...

Dave

Have you considered making your own? That is one of the things still on my to do list.

Thats one I've looked for a while back. No linen! Found white paper micarta at Jantz. If you fine linen, pls post!

USAKnifeMaker seems to have several returns on linen micarta for knife scales, looked to be in stock as well.

there is a 'bone' color that's probably a little too yellow to qualify as ivory, and they have a 'bleached melamine' linen micarta which is stark white, but IDK if that's the right product.

I remember years ago using Melamine for counter tops and quit using it because of cracking problems with the edges. Since knife handles are almost entirely edges that is out. But thanks for trying, appreciate it.

I don't care for the [non] pattern in the paper micarta and want the white or ivory linen. Guess I won't be using any white...

Dave

I opened a catalog for a place listed in the knifemaking section under supplers and they list ivory.

Rich, I checked all my sources and none list white 1/8 linen micarta in white or ivory.

I had checked the suppliers list as well. I also went back to the list after your post. I still don't see any of the material I am looking for.

Dave

I'm with the *make yer own* school. Its easy and you get what you want :) However if DIY just isn't in your wheelhouse, Chinobi nailed it: I went one click further and found Linen - Bleached Linen Melamine 1/8"

Might need to update your source list ;)

Edit: To be fair, US Knife Maker Supply isn't listed in the "Handle material" list but it is in the >Supplier list thread , From there its just a click or 3 or an appropriate search keyword away.

Your mileage may vary :D

As I said I am not interested in melamine...

Check out Bingham.com  bow supply  look under riser material

they have white linen in several sizes and thicknesses

Yes that is the one. I don't really like the tan but the white, black, and red are good material.

I ordered some of the linen from the bow place. Will post again after it gerts here and I have a chance to try it out.

Thanks to all for the suggestions :)

Dave

Several years ago i wanted some red in wider strips. I had to wait until they got a whole sheet in but they cut me 4 by 39 inch strips so i could cut across instead of toward the end. i think they charged me $30 some dollars a strip. i thought it was a bargain.

Winddancer  did you get your white linen micarta in? Was it what you wanted?

  • Author

Ordered from the bow place, it came and looks good. Haven't used any yet- probably not for a few days. Will post a pic and more info when I do.

Dave

In the knfemaking lessons there is a place for any of us to list suppliers,...Did you add that to the list?

  • Author

Not until I try the material and be sure it works correctly.

We are eagerly awaiting to see if the white linen worked out for you.

  • Author

I actually used some and did a couple handles. That will be dry and ready to work tomorrow or the next day. I will get some finished pics up when they are available. I think I am happy with it but will follow through.
