March 5, 201412 yr this is a anvil from a antique store I was at, looks like someone repaired it on the edge. I don't remember the weight but it was over a dollar a pound does any body know what a good price might be
March 5, 201412 yr How badly do you need an anvil? If you need one bad and have had no luck looking I might go as high as US$2 a pound. Personally I'd not go above $1.5/# and not be "happy" about anything over $1.25/#. Looks usable and it doesn't take long to make enough stuff to cover a higher price even if you can't brag about it...
March 5, 201412 yr For an anteek shop price, that's not too bad. Try the rebound test if you can and ping it for dead spots or unususl ringing. If it passes, see what you can get knocked off the price. Looks like a perfectly good user. I can't really tell by the pic if the repair is an issue. Steve
March 6, 201412 yr I looks like a Mousehole anvil. Hard to tell from the pictures how the repair is, but it it is sound any price under $2/lb is probably OK.
March 7, 201412 yr Is that paint or has the whole tip of the horn been welded on? Personally, I would buy it if it passed the tap test and I knew there weren't any flaws under the paint. A bit of repair isn't bad as long as you have a majority of original that you can work with. It's a good size anvil that will last you another hundred years. If the price is right, feel good about it.
