matrix2362
I don't know how many here have kids or play with a Nintendo 3DS, but the Nintendo eShop has put out a new game geared around blacksmithing. It is called Weapon Shop De Omasse. Anyone who has ever played a role playing game knows that most of the weapons you use are bought from some form of weapon shop. In this game you play a blacksmith running a weapon shop and your customers are the adventurers. It is silly at times but addictive. Have any of you seen or heard of any other blacksmith related games?
thingmaker3
I don't know anything about video games, but at our NWBA conferences, we often have real blacksmith competitions. In the past we've had: "threading the needle" where one tapers one end of a bar and punches the other, then threads the taper through the hole. Three-heat limit plus time limit. Most length through wins. contest to see who can make the biggest diameter spoon blank from standard stock "Ironwood Derby" was like the Boyscouts Pinewood Derby, but with steel instead of pinewood, and a five pound limit instead of a five ounce limit. This coming April will be the hammer making contest (already in progress - will be judged at the conference) and there's been word of a tong-making contest on-site. Everything Mac
Not so much a blacksmith's game but I have heard of a drinking game involving very thin pin type nails. ideally made of bronze (i.e. super soft) You tap the nail into a sturdy log and you have to drive your nail all the way in, using a very light hammer, without bending the nail. And you're only allowed to raise the hammer the length of the hammer's head. Bend the nail/ miss means taking a swig of your drink. - if you were really mean you could include "not driving it in completely" All the best Andy
Chinobi
i have to wonder if that is the culmination of the project brought up in this thread '?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>> and i wonder if it is even worth looking at :)
Dave Budd
i play a variation f the game that Everything Mac mentions. We have 2" nails with very small (3mm) heads and a stupidly small hammer (face of about 8mm), all other details are pretty much the same. Depending on whether the drinking aspect of the rules ins involved, I have done it in as little as 4 goes and as many as total fail. Oh, I'm also mean as I always use oak for the log :D A few other games I've come across: drawing out a 50mm section of 12mm bar to as long as possible in a set time. So like the 2" one about, but a solo competition throwing hammers at a 'sword' (2"x3' bar) stuck in the ground 5yds away. The hammers ranging in size from pin hammers to sledges 'Kissing the hammer'. holding a hammer in front of you at full extension and tilting it towards your face to kiss it (so just bending at the wrist not you shoulder or elbow). The winner is the one who can kiss the biggest hammer without breaking their nose!
Faber
Back when I was a kid and I played video games my favorite was one called Alundra, one of the main characters was the local blacksmith named Jesse. He'd make all your weapons and armor, if you ever get the chance I highly recommend it, it's for PS1.
