Dogsoldat
Short day at work, after I checked out the neighbours house (supply line to the kitchen sink came apart, gotta love old houses where the floor is a long ways from level. most of the water ran out the door) fired up the forge and started reshaping a sliver of D-8 cutting edge about 1 1/4" thick and some 1x1" sq A-36 into a bick. Weld the two pieces together at work with a real welder :) heat treat and polish up when I get home. Fairly happy with how things shaped up, only frustrating thing was the stub for the hardy hole isn't as nicely centered as I would like but its close enough to do the job. VaughnT
Looks great. I keep saying I'm going to make something similar, and I keep putting it off.
Dogsoldat
Welded the 2 pieces together. Heated and tweaked things a final time. Hardened up pretty good file just barely cut, over tempered the heel but it'll do. Center and horn are plenty hard still. Definitely have to recoat the forge. The brick in the bottom has melted to 1/3 it's original thickness. Never even fluxed anything this go around. Little file work and a buffing pad on the die grinder shinnied things right up. A little spritz of clear coat sure makes it all look professional. The black stuff on the face is just a little wax from the buffing wheel I should have wiped off. Dogsoldat
Haven't had a chance to play with it yet Frosty. Made a plate up to mount it in. But the rest of my times been drying out a house w/ an inch of water on the floor from a frozen pipe under he sink. what a guy won't do to help out the little old neighbour ladies :)
