78sharpshooter
Came across these anvils and was wondering if anyone here has one or has used one. They seem like a fair price and I like the shape.
jeremy k
A thread that was started awhile ago on Rhino anvils :
78sharpshooter
I found that thread but was looking for more recent and perhaps thorough feedback on what is liked and/or disliked about these anvils.
K. Bryan Morgan
I was one of the respondents on that other thread. I like pretty much everything about my Rhino but one thing. The horn doesn't come to a smaller diameter point. It stops about the one inch range. Which is fine if your only making one inch or larger rings, loops ect. I wish it came down to a finer point. Not necessarily a pointy point, if you get what I mean, but smaller would be nice for small rings, loops ect.
LastRonin
K. Bryan ... Would it be inconceivably wrong to you to do the time-honored thing of modifying your tool to fit your needs (a.k.a. grind the horn to the size point you want) ? K. Bryan Morgan
Its really hard steel and I don't want to mess it up. Besides it gives me a chance to buy/make something else for that purpose.
Frosty
Forge an anvil bic or we'll do it next time we get together Bryan. I've never heard any thing bad about a Rhino anvil here or elsewhere. Frosty The Lucky.
Dan C
What about welding say 7018 to build up the horn? I know Bryan is choosing not to but could someone do that if they wanted or would you need to use a different type of welding rod because of the alloy?
