November 21, 201312 yr Hi Guys, The new forge is ready. I've been working on it for a while and now the chimney is up and drawing well. The first two pictures show the smithy (the blue addition), it's a 10 x 20 foot add on to the older building. The next picture is the support for the Hofi smoke box and chimney. Next is a picture of the inside and the forge. Next is an inside view of the Hofi box and the last one shows a good draw with no blower involved. Larry
November 21, 201312 yr looks great ICB , that interior shot looks inviting , very nice work area you have there now !!
November 22, 201312 yr Author Thanks! Mac, I'm trying different positions for it to see which is most comfortable.
November 22, 201312 yr That's a beautiful smithy! Were I to make any comment, it would be to shrink the opening on the entry of the smoke box so that you have fewer square inches at the opening to the fire than you do at the chimney. Does that make sense? By making the hole smaller, you increase the draft considerably. Much like trying to suck through a tiny straw.... Love the shop!
November 22, 201312 yr Greetings LCB, Sweet lil shop... I agree with Vaugn.. If you make the draft hole smaller it will work much better.. I like a flip up hood slightly over the fire for fire ups and green coal... It's a shame you have to work with that little bench vise. LOL . I would turn the blower sidewise and move it closer to the forge.. All in all job well done. It will serve you well. Forge on and make beautiful things Jim
November 22, 201312 yr Author Vaughn, I had it fabricated to the specs given in Blueprint BP1048. I'll see how it goes for a little while and then experiment with a temporary closing off of part of the opening. Jim C, I'll try that too. Thanks everyone. Larry
November 30, 201312 yr The siding in contact with the ground is a welcome mat for termites, other than that, I really like it.
December 1, 201312 yr Author Thanks John, what you can't see is that none of the dirt is touching the building. There is a small ditch with pea stone in it and the building is on a cement foundation. Larry
