Jim Coke
Greetings All, I have a few Fisher things and could use some help with ID.. The stand is 18 inches tall and the lug holes are 11 inches apart.. What size fisher does this fit.... The anvil is a 10 (100) and has a number cast 12 under the heal.. Other numbers L11 (small) larger 111 I wonder if any one could date this.. I think its new old stock and has never been used ... Just one small chip 1/16 otherwise perfect... Any info would be appreciated.... Thanx Forge on and make beautiful things Jim
Black Frog
Not sure without closer inspection. I think you should send both to Cheeseheadland for me to have.... :) I have an 18" Fisher anvil stand myself, but mine is matched to a 100# Fisher anvil. My anvil stand only has the cast lettering on opposite sides, I see yours has them on adjacent sides. Is it on all four sides?

VaughnT
As far as I'm aware, nobody has ever deciphered what the "LII II" means. There is speculation that it was a denoting of the batch or lot number that the anvil's came from, but nothing definitive. The "12" under the heel might be the year it was cast, but I've never seen an example that didn't have the complete year. Of course, it could only have been 1912 so they might not have thought the prefix necessary. The sloppy placement almost makes it looked like someone forgot and rushed to get something in there before the mould closed! I've often wondered why they didn't cast the complete weight on the anvil: was it really that hard to add an extra zero?!
ThomasPowers
And if in the dressing and fettling the weight went a tad low? better to have an "approximate" weight listed than to be wrong on the final weight.
jerry p.
My Fisher is marked 150 and that is the weight of it .The year it was made is 1911. Maybe the year has some thing to do with how they were marked.
