reneeholiday
Well, I'm jazzed to start setting up my humble shop in the carport, as we have no garage/barn/suitable shed. Anyway, I have gas forge burner parts+ coming from Zoeller, and just mounted a 30" length of rail on its side. I am heading to Asheville next week to see about an anvil. Needless to say, I am ANTSY. ;-)
Glenn
The I'm jazzed feeling is understandable. It is the adrenalin that makes blacksmithing so addictive. Look for the same feeling when you complete your first project, when you find that bunch of scrap free for the taking (ask first), your first anvil, and the next project you that forces you back to the anvil. to build a fire, and make one. Charles R. Stevens
Might consider turning that hunck of rail on end. Smaller striking surface, but better use of the mass. A little work with grinder and the edges of the web and flange become tools also.
reneeholiday
Charles, it IS on it's end. I guess I wasn't clear about that. It's not a very good mount yet, but I will improve upon it. I'll take a pic when I get home.
