August 31, 201312 yr Often when viewing work I am more drawn to the little things than the big picture. Cool joinery, a subtle texture, a bit of flair, lets see 'em!
September 1, 201312 yr Really like all those neat looking details, just like big jewelry, real fine looking stuff.
September 5, 201312 yr Greetings all, Great stuff... Love it all... I think its fun to kick it up a notch or just give it a little NUGE.... LOL Forge on and keep making beautiful things Jim
September 5, 201312 yr Looking at these beautiful things in this thread makes me feel just stupid.... Truly gorgeous stuff.
September 5, 201312 yr Author Man, don't take it that way. " Forge on" is great advice. Everybody have some cool deets to share. Best part is that you can crop out all the stuff you messed up.
September 5, 201312 yr Love it all! Nuge, what am I looking at in the RR Track pic? Clicked to try and enlarge it but ni dice. Dave
September 5, 201312 yr Nuge, what is the item in your last pic? What size is that? Any chance of seeing the whole thing?
September 10, 201312 yr When i grow up i want to be able to make amazing peices of art like these. really nice work
September 10, 201312 yr There are some amazing pictures above. Personal preference for precision and skill is second post, third picture. I've tried to do similer work and to make something that simple is incredibly difficult. Anything with curves you can fudge to certain degree but if it is straight square lines they have got to be spot on, square rivet heads I'll have to more research on. "Remember Grasshopper, all things are possible" Andrew edit: added "m" to Remember
September 11, 201312 yr Author Timber deets. The second is cool because the collars are on the diamond thus the timbers are keyed in, and that's a proper rivet, scorched some wood.. The third is a crazy contraption with which you can tighten up the roof. Enjoy.
September 11, 201312 yr Author Nuge, what is the item in your last pic? What size is that? Any chance of seeing the whole thing? Wall piece, bout twenty inches, nope, deets only! (Smiley face). Whatcha got to share, dark frog?
September 11, 201312 yr Nuge - Are those timber details yours? If so, are you willing to share design info? I'm remodelling my house using 6x12s and 9x12s and a basic timber frame design but planning on using iron for the joinery instead of the traditional Timber Traming mortice, tenonss, pegs and knee braces.
September 11, 201312 yr Author Yup, dems mine. I used to rent some space from a great timber-guy. We did some fun stuff, not sure how some of it got through the engineering dept. Not that it wasn't bomber, just unorthodox. P.M. me if I can help. nothing that I have pictures of at the moment! Well, when you get some...Where in Wisco? Grew up in Germantown.
September 11, 201312 yr I like Nuge's "starfish"design. Andrew, thanks for the comments. The small rectangle rivets started as hex head bolts that I forged square, the back side are set round. The larger tenon end was upset with hammer and torch and then I used a flat ended punch to forge in the angles and keep the edges in bounds.
September 11, 201312 yr ...Where in Wisco? Grew up in Germantown. Now south of Milwaukee near Kenosha.
