Madknight
Hey guys, I'm currently living in New York and have just started smithing. I'm currently involved with the New York State Designer Blacksmith Artists, but I'm planning on moving to Anchorage in October. I was wondering if there were any monthly meetings near the city, or what can be available for a beginer to go to to rack up some experience. Thanks for your time! Frosty
We're still pretty young club and live pretty well spread out so we hold quarterly meetings with the occasional get together. I live about 50 miles north of Anchorage in the Mat Su valley and teach a few people. there are a number of guys living in Anchorage as well so you have opportunity to play with fire and beat steel. October is getting into cold season but we don't shut down completely. Keep in touch with us here and we'll see about smoothing your move here and set up some forging time. Frosty The Lucky. metalmangeler
Be sure you bring an anvil finding one here will be more difficult than down there.
K. Bryan Morgan
People here want stupid crazy money for blacksmithing tools. Even broke ones. I found a 100 lb. Arm and Hammer anvil in Big Lake and the guy wanted $1200 for it. And then he got mad when no one bought. He was ranting on Craigslist about it. For me I've found that its cheaper to buy new in the lower 48 and have it shipped up.
Frosty
Madknight: Our October meeting is Saturday the 19th. As said, bring as many tools as you can, they're very scarce here so they're ridiculously expensive. I mean, buy brand new and ship it instead expensive. We will be more than happy to meet you and get you going here. Frosty The Lucky!

teenylittlemetalguy
It is in Palmer at Pats place. Arctic fires bronze on inner springer loop. Will you be coming from anchorage? You can follow me out if you want.
Frosty
When you get to town, get specific directions, ride with or follow someone or you're unlikely to find Pat's. Let us know when you hit town we'll get together for a palaver or maybe just play with fire and hit things. Frosty The Lucky. .
