Hutch
Had a friend of mine give me a few steel window weights from his parents old farm house. Was thinking these might be used as hardy tools or hammer heads. Has anybody used any of these for anything other that anchors?
simmonds
The few I have seen here at our local scrap yard were cast. Not good for much.

Frosty
They're cast iron and good for what they are. Weights. Frosty
mcraigl
They make really good weights to ziptie to the bottom of your crab traps so that they stay put and land right-side-up when deployed. That's what I use them for anyway.
keykeeper
If they are the long, narrow ones, would make good weight for the uprights in a treadle or homemade power hammer, just fill in around them with sand!

habu68
Use them for a weight on a bicycle chain type hold down on your anvil. From Blueprint BP0461
son_of_bluegrass
if they are old enough there is a possibility they may be wrought iron. otherwise they are likely cast iron and good for weight unless you are into steel making. ron

Hutch
Thanks everyone great ideas. I was needing a tie down for my anvil work and the using for a treadle hammer just solved that problem!!!
ThomasPowers
VERY unlikely to be wrought iron as they were making cast iron way before they used that style of window and wrought iron cost more to make than cast iron. (the indirect method of making wrought iron was to start with cast iron and puddle it)
