I Forge Iron

forging wrought iron

Recommended Posts

it has grain structure and you have to allow for it . if you cut it with the grain it will want to follow the cut.so if you split it (like when you make a fork) the reccomended way to do this is punch a hole where the cut will end then cut to the hole that way it will (hopefully) not keep splitting. that and keep it hot wile forging (white and yellow do'nt forge at red)  should keep you. good luck!

That has a nice look to it. Well done. So, for your next project are you going to pattern weld with some high nickle steel?

My wife and I wear a Mokume Gane wedding rings made by a good friend of mine that are four layers in a simple twist pattern. they were made from the same billet and sawn lengthwise so Deb and my rings are mirrors of each other.

High contrast nickle and wrought iron in a simple twist is a bright distinctive pattern. Just a thought.

Yep that's the plan. I just did the plain iron because the traditional 6 year anniversary gift is iron.

Good thing you didn't get her a steam iron! <grin> She's going to love the ring, Wives must love anything we forge for them, it's part of the deal. <wink>

Post pics of your next project please.
