This is a mace I made just for fun. Its center is about a 3/4 inch round bar with a spike on the end. The mace head is pieces of angle iron that were cut thin, heated and bend slightly out of shape. They were then MIG welded to the shaft (yeah i know its cheating but it works). Its fun to smash cinder blocks with :) 

Looks fun!!....but heavy.

Two problems with a steel handle, makes for a bad balance AND it'll transmit vibrations right to your hand so it's likely to hurt the weilder too.

 

Looks effective enough and looks a lot better than your description made it sound.

Is that a form stake? Interesting use of common materials found around the house I'd say.
