poppaclutch
Here's a small vise I made. First image is stuff I was dragging out to make a belt grinder with a 7" wheel off a pallet jack. Second pic is a close up of the vise. Third is how far I got on the belt grinder, today.
mike-hr
That is really, really cool! Keep being creative, please. Also, put a dollar bill or a pop can next to it so we can visualize scale of the project...

toolish
what did you make the vice out of, did you make your own thread or get it from something else? Been thinking about trying to make my own one out of a bit of rail road, just stuck on how to make a good thread for the vice.
tantofolder
Well if that wheel is 7" the vise must be about 11"- 12" tall.Very cool looking!!
poppaclutch
Here's a size reference picture. 12.125" tall. Made of 1/2" hot rolled bar and plate. Thread is 1/2"-13 and came on the wing bolt. Tried garage door opener thread stock... (5/8 ths?) too big. Perfect thread is in one of my favorite "C" clamps so I am looking for another C clamp so I can build another vise. Not really for pounding on but sanding and filing. Spring was made of 1/2" stock from a coil spring.
navasky
Is that a metal-handled hammer next to it?
Frosty
Thanks for the scale, Sweet little vise and yes, a C clamp is an excellent source for the acme screw. Heck it's already trained. I like your style. Frosty the Lucky.
