royce unruh Posted March 8, 2013 Share Posted March 8, 2013 i have one rr spike thats twisted i am guessing it was used kind of like a screw so it wouldnt work loose as fast but idk what to do with it i dont really want to mess up the twist but i can and will if i dont think of other ideas. bigfootnampa Posted March 8, 2013 Share Posted March 8, 2013 Some spikes are manufactured with a twist in the shaft. I have seen these around old bridges/trestles. Not sure exactly why they were made that way but they were. The ones that I have seen were a pretty fast lead (small number of twists) and appear to have been intended to use like a drive screw. You could heat them and untwist them... or twist them more... or forge them as is leaving part or none of the twists... Or partially forge the twists... really unlimited, do as you like with them!
