arnieb2
I need help identifing this item I found. It is a oval shaped clamp that is hinged in the middle, closes onto a square handle or post, and is adorned with forged spikes all around the outside of it. Please see the attached photo. Any ideas????? Thanks..
Frank Turley
Without dimensions, it's hard to say. At first glance, Turkish dog collar?
Wroughton
Looks like it was underwater. Hate to naysay but I'm going to guess that's a cast iron piece and not forged. You'll have to bust that rusty mud off so we can see what's going on.
MLMartin
It looks like it may be cast iron. Are you sure that it is forged?
Frosty
I wish I had a suggestion but I'm watching the episode of WKRP where Herb paints Green Peace his daughter's pet frog pink and am laughing too hard. Seriously my eyes are watering and my hands are shaking too hard to type, I'm trying to squeeze this reply in on a commercial. Oh yeah, the mystery part, were it mine I'd bill it as a middyevil (yeah, that's a deliberate spelling, don't bother to correct me) torture device at demos. Doing demos is theater and I couldn't pass something like that up without making as much of it as I could. Of course some humbug would ruin it for me by telling me what it really is but. . . Frosty The Lucky.

John B
Items similar to this were mounted on brackets to hold drainpipes in place, the idea being to deter anyone wanting to scale the drainpipe for whatever reason.
