schnor
Just getting started in Blacksmithing I'am repairing a coal forge for my high school project. I need a new Tuyere Plate. Does it need to be cast iron or can it be made out of steel? It needs to be 6 inches in diameter. Does anybody know where i can buy one? VaughnT
There is a guy on ebay that sells "tuyere plates" for about $20. You can certainly make one of your own out of mild steel, though. All it takes is a bit of mild steel and a drill and/or mill. What type of coal forge do you have? Does it have a deep firepot made from cast iron, or is it a shallow dish with a flat plate tue? schnor
It is a deep firepot made from cast. Also should i put in a layer of high temp concrete? I can maybe post a picture later.
ThomasPowers
Nope the high temp concrete will just stick more clinker to it and it can be handy to be able to remove such a plate and clean any clinker off it with a hammer.
Private Entrance
I used a piece of sheet metal from an old washing machine for mine. I don't expect it to hold up forever, but it works just fine for now. Be creative - my vote is that you can come up with something that will work great. ThomasPowers
Actually for my tuyere I use diamond pattern expanded metal replacing it as needed. I find the scraps for free. I do have to take it out after a hard day of welding and hammer off the fluxcicles

David Einhorn
A photo or two would be helpful. Are you sure that the firepot you have is designed to have a tuyere plate?
