Too Wild For Me

SS sez....don't even think about it!!!..... ......Too bad they didn't throw the stuff a say a piece of copper or steel sheet metal. I bet the patterns and resulting blobs could be interesting.... Straw hats, no glasses and they were probly wearing sandals....Even I wouldn't go there.......

"Professional closed course do not attempt" my favorite disclaimer should be included. Maybe this will be pirates next impossible mission

What? No fire extinguisher handy?
Let's see, poor blacksmiths sling molten metal at a wall, and shoot anvils several hundred feet into the air.
Forging hot iron on an anvil seems tame by comparison. But we still push safety at every opportunity.

I bet they'd just tar and feather you if you told them to put on some PPE.

Given that they've been doing it the same way for hundreds of years, we can probably give them a little credit for this not being their first rodeo.

I read somewhere that when asked if they thought it dangerous they replied "No, not as long as you're not afraid to die . . ." :D

Ahh they used to bleed people as a medical technique for centuries. Didn't do any good (save for very rare diseases) and killed a lot of folks. Stuff that's been done for a long time doesn't necessarily make it a *good* idea.

I'd file this with the folks using newspaper as welding PPE myself...

Pretty to look at, reminds me of the first time I tried CI in a billet---big globs of molten CI spattered out burning off carbon until they burst into "sparklers" when the iron started burning.

Didn't say it was a good idea . . . I suggested they've been doing if for a long time and they seem to be comfortable with it the way it is.
Step off the high-horse Thomas . . . I don't think the Chinese are looking for a new nanny.

There is a reason we've exported a lot of nasty process work over there...

Thomas, My original response in this post was said by way of being mean-spirited and strayed way off-topic. That's not what I'm on IFI for, so I've deleted it.

My final point on this is that I think the folk of this village know exactly what's involved and the inherent dangers that exist around it. It's time honored for them and suggesting that they're doing it out of ignorance is arrogant.

Love it. Makes burning man look like a bunch of hippies and a lighter.

Not ignorance but "traditions" can be not a good thing as many traditions in many cultures can be downright bad! I'd like to see them keeping up their traditions but perhaps with more PPE.

I'm sure that the people in the video don't give a flying ____ about what any of us think of what they should be doing...

This guy makes the Iron hurlers look like wimps! He gets within 30 meters of the caldron in a volcano......

My first degree was in Geology; we generally lose a couple of geologists to volcanoes every year---at least 4 at Mt St Helens as I recall...

The effects are amazing! It’s like stars falling from above. However, it is too unsafe. I hope they understand the dangers lurking in that job.

Don`t speak any Chinese so have to wonder if what the guy tossing the iron is saying something equivalent to when some of my old Texas buddies used to say, " Hold my beer and watch this".

I don't know whats the matter with you guys...they are wearing safety Equip. They have those furry vests.....and they are wearing HATS ! !. Hold my beer i'm going to try that xxxx

Now taking donations for Larry`s plane ticket to vacation in China. :D

Woo Hoo !, I'll start packing ! you think I should bring my own HAT ?....I wonder if they have cheap made in America souvenirs ?

Then I guess this is out too....

No dumber than shooting anvils 100's of feet into the air. It is truly a sight to beholde though.
