August 2, 201213 yr See, cheap anvils are available. I guess he didnt know how to look online to try and sell it :o , Good for the buyer though.
August 2, 201213 yr Sedimental value don't count for squat on the auction block or a private buyer......Good deal for the buyer at 140
August 2, 201213 yr I think it was a fair price at 140. I doubt that thing weighed more than 120 and was in pretty rough shape.
August 2, 201213 yr It was in good shape, and sold to a dealer, who will easily triple his money on it without even cleaning it.
August 3, 201213 yr My anvil weighs 120, so I know that one was at least 30lb heavier. That said, the owner was a fool for not doing his research on the anvil to determine its weight or brand. The maker's mark might have been destroyed, given, but he sure didn't come across as being knowledgeable about it. Used to make movie sets? Prove it! Otherwise, that claim is just so much bumpkiss. Got pictures of the ironwork granpa made on it? Was gramps well-known in the area for his smithing? Where are the photos. Ugh!!!
August 3, 201213 yr I would say its a buy at below 150 and a sell over 250, anything else is just dreaming or good luck. It looked like an early Hay-Budden.
