Brianswelding Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 I saw a video a while back with a guy that had a foot powered rosebud torch that had an idle flame and when he stepped on the pedal it would fire up nice and hot. He'd go back and forth from his torch to the flypress, the foot pedal attachment looked like a real fuel saver. Anyone know the name of that style torch? My google-Fu is weak on this one. Quote
peacock Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 It's a standard Gas Saver with a little rework. Make a mount for the torch above the pilot light rig the shut off lever to work with you foot. Quote
Daniel.85 Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 Ive been looking at these too, looks like it would be awesome. From what Ive seen they are more for the glasswork crowd and just reworked for us, Gas Saver is what I saw too. Quote
Bigred1o1 Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 i am thinking this is the vid with the setup in ithttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yo2FcOTzQ9M Quote
Brianswelding Posted March 30, 2012 Author Posted March 30, 2012 Yea that's it. I guess it's called a treadle torch. Quote
Bigred1o1 Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 yeah it looks like a gas saver with a little fork to let you lift it up and now without having to take the torch off the gas saver and it has more or less a Bunsen burner in front of it Quote
dkunkler Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 You can find more info and how to make the treadle setup here.http://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/24992-hooking-up-gasaver-for-torch/page__p__251892__hl__saver__fromsearch__1#entry251892 Quote

Brianswelding Posted April 2, 2012 Author Posted April 2, 2012 So its looking like all of these are more or less home made. Any place that sells one already figured out and ready to go? I'm kind of missing the point on that drawing in the link, the torch and bunsen burner are seperate from eachother, making not hands free right? Guy in the video has it setup the way I'd like it. ornametalsmith Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 here's a few I've made. An older(center) one and two new ones. Quote

The last photo of post #13 in the linked topic shows it setup for treadle mode. The visegrips are weighting the lever in the off position until the treadle is pressed. Quote

As far as I know you have to do the mods yourself If you don't want to do it ship me you gas saver and I will do it for a small fee. It is real simple make a mount for the gas saver, the pilot light is pipe thread into the gas saver just unscrew it add a street el a short piece of pipe and an elbow screw the pilot back into that. On the bottom of the base make a foot pedal so when you step on it it pushes a rod up to lift the lever on the gas saver, hang the torch on the hook, light the pilot, light the torch, hang the torch back on the hook go to work.
