July 23, 201114 yr Table I did awhile back to seat eight people. Forged from flat bar, the base members were from 2'' x 4'' and the U's were forged from 1 1/2'' x 4''....
July 23, 201114 yr WOW is right. That's a real peice of work. Beautiful. Thanks for posting, Bruce. :)
July 23, 201114 yr Very nice work! I have some 2"x4" stock in the shop so I can appreciate the weight of the piece......Again....nice work.
July 24, 201114 yr Author Very nice work! I have some 2"x4" stock in the shop so I can appreciate the weight of the piece...... The bases were like 200# each...........The glass was 300# and very scary to handle........
July 24, 201114 yr Nice table Bruce. I really like it. Did you have a lot of trouble aligning the top ends in the same plane?
July 24, 201114 yr Author Naw, I just ran a strait edge along the outriggers for installation............. For fabrication It was tricky, the U's were laid out and matched carefully, then with a level across the top of the U's I just went to the center mark on the crossbar. The collars were fun.......1/2 x 6''........I had to buy a huge oxy propane torch (as big as a golf club)to make the bends, and that was more fun than wrapping them....
July 24, 201114 yr Nice looking Mac, you have a crane to wield that stuff around? Must have been hard to come up with the same length on the bars forged from the center out or did you just cut and weld?
July 25, 201114 yr Author Nice looking Mac, you have a crane to wield that stuff around? Must have been hard to come up with the same length on the bars forged from the center out or did you just cut and weld? Thanks Danger.......Crane yes! Lifting heavy stuff is for the macho, I was never much good at it anyway.. The lower bars are all one piece and the U's were two, that made em far easier to bend..
July 26, 201114 yr That is a beautiful table. One that a moving company would hate but any owner would love. Impressive! Mark <><
July 26, 201114 yr Author The legs are not a whole, safe? I like the traditional forging and joints really. I don't quite understand your question, could you rephrase it?
July 27, 201114 yr I don't quite understand your question, could you rephrase it? Sorry for my Chinglish. I thought it is safer that the two(or four) table legs connect together. Get it?
July 27, 201114 yr Author Sorry for my Chinglish. I thought it is safer that the two(or four) table legs connect together. Get it? D'oh!........................10-4, The bases are so massive they don't move at all.......I made a coffee table first to make sure the thing was stable, and it is an eight legged table......
