Ouch!
I had a big old race horse kick me just about like that when I was 12 yrs old.
He hit me above the knee and just below the hip on the right leg (quads). It was quite a serious injury although it did not break my leg.
You might say it left quite an impression on my mind also.
That is why I never, never considered becoming a Farrier.
Be safe!

Having done a little farrier work (enough to know my knees dislike it enough that the money ain't worth it), I can tell you he was standing exactly where a horse instinctivly kicks when attacked from behind. If he had stood beside the ribcage it likely would have worked.

Yea, when I watched I kinda thought the guy was a moron, he stood in the exact position for receiving a kick. Poor sap. Also, I was reminded that with cattle, don't they pinch them in a pen to hold them for a brand or tag? I thought it was odd that the horse was just standing in a stall to receive a brand..
