edge9001
I had an idea today for poor man's press, would this work? a screw type car jack mounted in a frame, with a DC motor hooked to the screw. the DC motor would make it reversable by switching positive and negative wires would this make a usable press? something like this sorry for such a rough sketch
dkunkler
It would work, but you would only get 1 or 2 tons of squeeze force.
edge9001
ok, thats sound like a bad thing the way you say it... what is the average working tonage for a small press, something the size this would make?
Madmike
If you've got a decent air compressor, you can cheaply make an air-over-hydraulic mini-press 20T rated... An air operated 20T jack is 79 bucks at Harbor-freight...Direct link to the right jack And here is a link to a thread started by T.A. Toler at Don Fogg's where we discussed about our different revs...Air operated Mini Presses Mine is the rusty one at the end of the first page... pkrankow
http://www.harborfreight.com/garage-shop/shop-presses/20-ton-air-hydraulic-shop-press-with-oil-filter-crusher-65330.html Are these worth it as a cheap press? Just add dies it looks like. Phil
edge9001
This looks to me like the same 20t jack madmike listed, only already in a frame. So IMHO yes it would make a good press
Madmike
Perhaps a bit loose on the guides if you work off center, but it would be easy to modify, nice find
