Bluemamoo Posted June 5, 2010 Share Posted June 5, 2010 Hello everyone, I recently had a very good weekend where I managed to pick up two Anvils after 2 months of having no success. I was wondering if anyone could tell me exactly what I managed to pick up. The first Anvil weighs in at 80.5#. This anvil has a large number 8 and some other mark next to it. I paid $130 for this anvil, even though there was the chance it was more of an ASO than a true anvil. The face has quite a few nicks in it, but the edges are pretty clean. The second anvil I feel a little better about. This anvil weighs 146#, has a clean face and good edges. There are numerous markings as well. Think its a PW, but not sure. The only issue of concern for me is that while cleaning off the built up rust, I found what looks like a crack under the horn. From what I can see, it looks like the numbers 159 in the first picture, and 155 near the pritchel hole. BTW, paid $300 for this one, though I do feel a little better about it. Thanks for the help! Can you make out the central number 1 x 112 + XYZ x 28 + 9 good price if the center number is zero and a great price if it's an 1, 2, or 3! Nakedanvil - Grant Sarver Posted June 6, 2010 Share Posted June 6, 2010 That first one is interesting. Never seen anything like the bolster reinforcement under the hardy hole. The raised "8" and other features indicate it's cast. Looks like it has stood a fair amount of abuse. Be nice to spark test the face. I couldn't get a picture that shows any detail, but I make out the center number to be a 5. BIGGUNDOCTOR Posted June 7, 2010 Share Posted June 7, 2010 Look for something resembling a 1. 112+28+9=149 The bolstered hardy caught my eye too. I have seen a couple of Blacktop Badgers on the I-15. They are a thinner version, unless they sit in the sun too long then they look like mini Macy's Day parade floats. Stinky buggers too . I've never seen a cast anvil with a bolster like that before either, are you keeping that one or passing it on to someone else? Figuring on giving both of them a go and see how I like it. If someone is interested in the Badger out of curiosity or is looking for something to start with (semi - local like) I have no problem selling it to them.
