triw
Forge welded some motorcycle chain into a nice blade. What do you think?
Bentiron1946
The pattern is nice. Did you hand forge it or use a hydraulic press? I'm guessing that the handle is antler. Nice job.
triw
Yes the handle is elk antler and the bolster is cast pewter (cast in place). I did not use a press it is hammered.
Bentiron1946
So, you built a little coffer dam around the antler and poured the pewter, then trimmed it off close to the antler?
Messerist
A nice, rugged looking blade, yet the damascus adds a touch of elegance:).

Dave Parker
Got me beat, I am still making them out of RR spikes, files and wrenchs. Chain may take me a while. Great job, thanks for sharing
pkrankow
Drive chain produces such interesting patterns. That is sharp looking. Phil
Rob Browne
Really nice. I like the usefulness of the kitchen knives, we use them every day!
triw
So, you built a little coffer dam around the antler and poured the pewter, then trimmed it off close to the antler? Bentiron, I made the dame out of masking tape (several layers). If you do it right not much trimming to do. Just polish the top and edges. If you are in the Cottonwood area give me a shout I am not that far north from you.

ArtWerkz
Nice work, May I ask if you used a chain break to stack the metal or what your method was to weld. Thanks in advance.
matt993fod
Cool knife! So what is motorcycle chain generally made of? Does it harden up ok?

triw
Nice work, May I ask if you used a chain break to stack the metal or what your method was to weld. Thanks in advance. Newbie09 I cut the chain in approx 6" pieces and laid them side by side. Then threaded steel cable through the sproket holes to fill in the space. (first time I tried with out that I could not get it to weld and the chain fell apart) Not sure what a chain break is. Educate me on that please William
