t.sisco
I'm looking for a source for a tomahawk drift. I've only been able to find one for $25 but shipping is really high. I live in oklahoma and $16 seems a bit high on shipping charges. Any suggestions on where to find one. Thanks God Bless. Terry
bigfootnampa
Terry; You might check out flea markets and antique stores for old miner or railroad picks. I usually cut the spikes off with an angle grinder and cut-off disc. If you get one close in size and shape just a few heats can refine the profile and you'll be drifting in no time! Sometimes I can get them pretty cheap when they have no handle. Sometimes they are only ten or twelve bucks even if they do have a handle. t.sisco
Thanks Guys. rthibeau, Are you drifts the standard tear drop shape? God Bless. Terry
David Einhorn
i found one best online drift shop check it and i sure you will get tomahawk drift there. When I looked at that site: 1. It appears that they only sell automotive stuff, not blacksmithing drifts. 2. Trying to view the site gave me a headache, as my poor brain does not do well with reading words printed sideways, and with stuff that moves and spins. :(
pkrankow
I Googled "steel bull pin" based on a comment in another thread about drifting hammer eyes and found some nice looking possibilities. Still in the $20 per plus shipping ballpark.http://www.iforgeiron.com/forum/f79/drifting-ball-peen-hammers-hawks-15611/ ThomasPowers mentions it part way down. A bit better in price but flea markets are likely to have the best price. :)
Bentiron1946
I have seen some fairly large spud wrenches at flea markets for reasonable prices, $4-$10. I would think that they would work if you torched off the wrench part.
ThomasPowers
Anytime I can pick up a bull pin for $2 or less I get them, Spud wrenches too as they make nice bickerns.
Dan W
I'd go with the spud wrench idea. I have a number of them on hand and have used them for bickerns, drifts and small ones for ring sizers.
