beatamax
Start at one end and work to the other;);)
thecelticforge
I begin heating at one end, clamp it, and use a pipe to straighten it out. I don't like hammering a coil because it is difficult for me to keep the piece from moving.
CBrann
Get a piece of pipe a little smaller than the spring. Heat the spring up, I usualy get about 2 wraps hot, put the whole spring on the pipe, and pull the end to straighten. Basically using heat and "unwind" the spring, opposite of how it was made. Good luck, Cliff
brianbrazealblacksmith
Just cut off what you need on the horn of your anvil with a chisel. Be careful not to cut all the way through and into your horn.
hammerkid
I usally cut what I need with chop saw or cutting wheel on grinder and then get it hot and starigten in the vise and then tweek it on the anvil.
Dutchmancreek
I'm with the last two replies. I measure the length I need, cut it from the coil (usually with a cutting disc), and then straighten the cut off piece.
