  1. I was recently married. Everything was going well until I realized the day before the wedding that we had not discussed rings. Some quick cuts on 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch pipe, little heat, filing, and polishing left us with to beautiful "brush finish" wedding rings. I am sure she will think them to be white gold until she gets near a magnet or goes through an airport.
  2. I need color suggestions for the stucco. I am thinking terracotta over the gray and blue over the red brick? Perhaps some mosaic work over the hearth? The innards are 4" block and the table is poured aggregate, with poured aggregate/fireclay/fire brick around the fire pot. It is a round heavy duty one that is set 1/2 inch below the edges of the table.
  3. Done? Never say that! I just stuccoed the out side of mine, with a scratch coat and am pondering what color to put on the final coat. I may go with teracota or a buff. I am also thinking about making a mosaic over the hearth or just an abstract pattern. I did find a really nice 10X10 inc tile today with a Scandinavian winter scene on it. If I can find one for each season, I may even use those.
  4. This web sit has a LOT of ideas, or it did at one time. It still has some useful links. http://www.seiyaku.com/customs/crosses/passion.html
  5. I have a forge cat. The only birds are the neighbor's chickens and the cat is scared of the rooster and I don't blame her. Foul tempered he is.
  6. Here is a small curing/test fire. I have a draft!
  7. I am a big fan of the foam ear plugs, I even sleep in them because of the combination of a coon hound that lives with us and all the nocturnal critters he adores here in the Chattahoochee National Forest. I put them in when I put on my apron and take them out when I take the apron off. I nearly lost my hearing while in the service and have been paranoid ever since. I know the big noises can really get you, but in my humble opinion, even the sound of a muted anvil over time is just as bad if not worse.
  8. My Grandfar had one much like that. It also was 13 pound. He worked for the railroad.
  9. Try to make one with playdough first. Start out with a ribbon and a round. I think your guess will be as good as anyone else's then. :~)
  10. I turned out a flint striker for some one today and it worked great! However after a few great spark showers, it stopped working about 50% of the time, even with new sharp flints. What's up?
