February 17, 201016 yr Author Thanks. This is my first attempt at masonry work, and if I have my way I will never handle brick and mortar again. "Make one out of brick, can't be too hard" I said to myself, I had no idea what I was gettin in to. Almost done though, so I'll soon be back to working steel and enjoyin the results of all that frustrating filthy brickwork.
March 9, 201016 yr Author Pleasing to the eye, straight mortar lines...Nice job. Got fire yet? Phil Thanks for the kind words. Just fired it up for the first time two hours ago. Still needs a tabletop and some minor adjustments, but it draws well so far.
March 9, 201016 yr Looks great! I always think there is more skill in laying bricks than welding steel,it takes you back to the time when all forges were built that way. Cheers Ian
April 4, 201016 yr Done? Never say that! I just stuccoed the out side of mine, with a scratch coat and am pondering what color to put on the final coat. I may go with teracota or a buff. I am also thinking about making a mosaic over the hearth or just an abstract pattern. I did find a really nice 10X10 inc tile today with a Scandinavian winter scene on it. If I can find one for each season, I may even use those.
