  1. That whomper stomper Treadle hammer looks mighty nice,do you find it to work to all your needs.Did you have plans or build her out of your head,looks well made.
  2. Yes i Agree with Leah i was cutting the top off an (what i found out later was an avgas drum)and it went boom blew top clean off just about took my head off.fill it with water first.

  6. Cheers for the info Matt, yes i have thought of Mig tips, our Migs here in New Zealand are only .6 of a mm i thought they may have been too big.but i will get a0.035 drill and see how i get on thanks very much

  8. I`m building a Gas Forge simular to the Gary Ford design in BluePrints, And i`m havin trouble with main Jet size please can someone help out what would be the best size to use Thanks so much in advance:confused: I`m using LPG or natural gas

I have a post drill here and i think its an old Model T diff and the attached gearbox, it was built by my Grandaddys Friend many moons ago.would work if had something to run it with,but i use a faster drill press now.Plus i have a homade HackSaw to go with it all she is of the same era.Both gathering dust now.

Hi Frosty, I first forge was a brake drum,and i found she was to small,So i built a bigger forge and use part of it,If i have a big job then the space is there.Thanks very much for all you very useful help.Oh I have just gotten hold a forge plus hand blower which was made in 1888 still in working order, a few parts rebuilding,no worries to this kid.Again thanks so much for your kind help.regards Alastair

Hi guys thanks for the help, i have some mud off the track to cut down the forge size,Thanks rmcpb.Frosty you ask what the Rod is coming out of the Tuyere,If i pull that out it clears out all the fire ash and keeps it all clean, i have a small half disc welded on the end.works great.I do have a hand blower coming,so will save on fuel big time,Thanks for your all help muchly appreciated
  14. My only regret is this forge is hungry on Charcol,but a least my fuel is free.I built from bits i had in the junk pile,The blower is a 3 speed car fan, which works rather well,bar the hungry part.:)
  15. Dose anybody know if you can heat steel to a yellow heat then dip into molten beeswax for a non rust effect & keep a slight shine. Thanks very much in Advance

  18. I`m new at this kinda thing,Is Hard wood better or soft wood Better.Which is best for the greatest heat. I have many diffrent grades of wood to choose from. Thankyou in advance.:)
  19. I have a heater fan out an old car,if i run it flat out it blows all the coals out,so i put two 12 volt light bulbs inline and that slows it down just good.i use my tractor battery has heaps of grunt.lasts a few days till i need to recharge it.

  21. If you use some fine emery cloth plus, a few hours of spare time it will all sand off.

Hi I`m new to this forum,and not sure how it all works,anyway i`m building a power hamer out of old junk i have lying around.works fine but i`m wondering if some one could help out,whats the best style of spring that sits on the top of a power hammer heavy truck or light trailer type.   23. Hi Johannes, being able to use both hands for whatever you do is called ambidextrous, i can use both hands on a hammer,but the only time i get crossed up is when i shear my sheep.if you use your left hand you will find it will get easy by the day,go easy on the right for now.
