  1. Sadly no. They said they will give me a call whenever they replace some as they are more than happy to give them to me. They just don't replace them very often I guess. I did see some break drums I almost grabbed to attempt a break drum forge.
  2. I have been frequenting the shop I take my vehicles to looking for leaf/coil springs but have had no luck.
  3. I don't spank my kids unless I really, really have to. I always feel terrible doing it even when it has to be done. Thankfully the wife handles what little spanking that needs tolled out and she gives more of a swat than a spank. I haven't spanked them much, but when I did I made sure it left an impression, so now all ol Dad has to do is get up and walk into the room with intent and they all stand to and tune in. Unfortunately, I had to give out a whoopin a few weeks ago. Oldest (5) refused to come in for dinner and the night and sat outside and screamed. The wife had been handling negotiations, but when all negotiations broke down and the wife tried to pick her up and bring her inside, she ran. From my days as a kid, running was a HUGE no no, even more so know since we live in the city and off a busy street. Well, another old rule applied in on this one, you can't outrun dad. Felt so bad giving her a couple smacks, but was still relieved that when she bolted that she didn't head towards the road. My middle daughter (4) is different. She is VERY sensitive and takes really, really bad to that kind of punishment. All you typically have to do with her is just look at her wrong and she will break down. Having 3 girls is so much fun. 5, 4 and 2.
  4. That is going to be a very nice table Alexandr! Out of pure curiosity, how much do you sell something like that for?
  5. I like to sing along in the car and what not and the wife says I am a really good singer, but am MUCH too self conscious to do it in front of just about anyone except the wife. Ill just hum along otherwise lol. I have a really good ear for tune and can't stand to listen to something that is even just slightly off, which nixes most auto-tuned pop music
  6. I always enjoy the alternate history movies and such. I recently played Iron Harvest, which is an alternate history where WWII was essentially fought in giant steampunk mech's lol.
  7. Thomas, your mother was hamster and your father smelt of elderberries! I love Monty Python. Fun fact, my wife had never seen any of the movies (poor sheltered girl) and when I learned of this, I watched several of them with her (obviously the most notable 2 were Quest for the Holy Grail and Life of Brian). She is now completely hooked on them.
  8. I have managed to get good enough at making them that I can smash out a hook in probably 20ish or so minutes and in only a few heats. I have quite the supply of them hanging in the shop, so I managed to give any quite a few of them over the weekend. Kids thought it was awesome to have one. Showed them the knife shown in the picture BEFORE it was snapped, which then prompted them to ask if I had seen that show Forged in Fire and had been on it . I think I broke their hearts when I said I was nowhere near good enough to do something like that.
  9. That is very fair. Should have tried since I had nothing to lose! When I get back out there, Ill heat the little bugger back up and see if I can twist it back. If not, ill just turn it into a very large screw
  10. It typically stays in the shed/shop and doesn't move (intentionally), but it has been so hot that I did not want to work in there so dragged it all outside and kind of just left it there. Thankfully I live in a nice area and don't have to worry about it wandering off. On the note of moving it outside, we had a wedding event over the 4th of July weekend that took place in our backyard (neighbors got married). Before all the festivities started, I decided to make a few hooks and man, all the kids that were showing up were absolutely ENTHRALLED by what I was doing. By the end, I had a crowd of probably 8 kids and a few adults watching me make hooks. With great supervision, even let some of the older ones take some swings. I am by no means versed enough to teach anyone anything in regards to forging, but it was fun blowing their minds showing them how to make one.
  11. I had thought about doing that, but in all honestly figured it would not work. I would have thought it would either break, twist in another weird way, or crumble.
  12. Tried fiddling with a rail spike over the weekend to make the typical rail spike knife. Everything was going so well until I went to do the twist to finish up. Right as I went to twist, the neighbor yelled at me to tell me something and I didn't stick it in the vise far enough and twisted roughly 70% of the darn thing
  13. I see. I thought the grains may have been a bit too large as I did not really normalize it. I have been making knife like objects and trying to harden them just to get the method down. Suppose not normalizing somewhat defeated the purpose of practicing though. On a side note, I left my anvil out over the week and it rained and boy did that thing rust up quickly.
  14. When I took one of his classes I quite enjoyed talking to him after we were all done lol. Showed me the anvil you hid from him etc.
  15. Yeah the TED talk was a little hard to hear.
  16. Just thought it was a nice short read about a local and person whom I have been lucky enough to take a class from. Also, Mr Powers even got an honorable mention. If linking the article is not allowed, I apologize as I wasnt sure if it was or not. https://www.columbusnavigator.com/central-ohio-school-of-metalwork/
  17. Made some hooks yesterday and starting fiddling with making a knife out of 15N20. Didn't do much today as our neighbors had wedding in their/my yard and the tinking would have been frowned upon. In other news, it appears weddings and me don't mix very well. On the plus side, that bottle of Jack I had for more than a year is finally gone, downside side my poor head now several hours later.
  18. Im not 100% sure on what I am looking at, so hoping some you experts could provide your wisdom. How do the grains look in this? This was a "knife" i was working on practicing heat treat. It seems to have been hardened since it very easily snapped. Tried taking as good a picture as I could.
  19. Due to my shaky hands, I make pretty bad beads for welds. If I was building a propane forge, I think I would probably use bolts to hold it together since at some point the refractory will need replaced. But seriously, my welds are AWFUL looking
  20. When I had my hernia repair, the stuff I was on didn't make me hyper, but wouldn't let me get tired enough to sleep. It was exhausting to not be able to get exhausted. Also, if you've never had a hernia repair (groin), its pretty terrible. 2 months being unable to stand up straight and having to shuffle your way around. Also, pray to whomever you pray to that you never and I mean NEVER sneeze. That was some of the worst pain I have ever felt was a sneeze after my repair.
  21. I only had pneumonia once in my life. I had went to bed one night feeling just fine then woke up the next morning getting ready for work and felt terrible. Wife woke up to me shuffling around and took one look and said go back to bed you arent working. I woke back up some 12 hours later running a temp of 103F with the flu, which 2 days later developed into pneumonia. I was bed ridden for over a week and barely had the energy to even get up to go to the bathroom. It was horrible and I hope I never get it ever again. Pneumonia is what finally got my grandmother as well, granted she was 88, had smoked a large portion of her younger years, and had only half of her lungs really functioning. I had covid at the beginning of the year (my lucky self developed it 2 days before Christmas), and I would say my bout with pneumonia/flu was much, much worse. Granted I know it affects everyone differently, but it was no where near as terrible for me. The loss of taste was really weird though.
  22. Sunday/Monday was pretty bad. I think the heat index was over 100 with humidity. It was awful.
