NoDebt, sorry I did not see your photo and question until now.  It looks like probably a hard=faced weld application.  Thermal spray applications do not hold up too well to impact and not often exceed a thickness of a millimeter or two.

Still safer for you.  Glass is replaceable, you can figure out a way to secure it safely I hope.

In the trunk, FOR SURE.  In the backseat, it would come forward to say hi if you hit something.  On the floor, if you were to roll the vehicle over, it would be bouncing around in there with you, again telling you hi to the head and possibly all over.  Of course, I hope that you don't have an accident.  Drive safely and be well.

It originated as flame spray way back in the day, now comes in the form of Air Plasma Spray, Vacuum Plasma Spray, Low Pressure Plasma Spray, wire flame spray, arc spray, High Velocity Oxygen Fuel, High Velocity Air Fuel and Detonation Gun but the original method of flame spraying is still used today where appropriate.

Those powders are very likely powder intended for use in thermal spray, it is a surface engineering technology/process.

I have a couple shock shafts I cut off from old shocks.  They have been sitting out for quite a while now and are showing no signs of oxidation.  VERY likely they are chrome plated.  I doubt that a wire wheel would remove the chrome, maybe after using a lot of wheels, due to the chrome being so hard.  It would take some grinding but don't do that either.

I like the Frankanvil too, but I am a little concerned about that anvil stand for it. 

That just means that your bed is too small.

You mentioned Kaowool, is it exposed/bare?  That is not good if such is the case.  You will be exposed to breathing in those fibers.

I am with Frazer in the school of thought that one should buy that which one already has more of the same batteries.  That being said, I have stuck with Black and Decker.  I had already a cordless weed eater and a couple drills.  Though you will likely not find a cordless grinder from B and D.  That being said, I have a bit of a rant to express and the reasoning for staying with B and D.  It was about a year ago, more or less, that I was thinking about getting a cordless circular saw and reciprocating saw.  I went to my local ACE, and, to my dismay, found that the current trend among most of the manufacturers is to just sell the tool by itself and the battery and charger separately.  WHAT!  It had been some years since I had bought any cordless power tools and I was incredulous.  It seems to me that they are really more into selling batteries now than to sell tools with batteries and chargers together.  Of course, they have such bundles, but I was not about to pony up that much cash for a tool, charger, and one battery.  So I shopped some more online, which confirmed that the trend is the same for most of the major power tool brands.  So I bought a four tool combo deal from Amazon, Black and Decker.  Came with, wait for it...a charger and battery.  I since bought another weed eater, same battery type, so I have 7, 20v Max batteries at my disposal.  I expect that some might express a disdain for that brand, as I was skeptical at first when I bought a cheap drill of theirs.  I thought at the time that I would be the crap of the thing and just throw it away.  Despite all the beating it up, I have not yet thrown it out, it is still going.

JW, something seemed familiar about what you have mentioned recently so I creeped on your profile and found that, yes, you were asking about being in the US Navy last year.  I had commented on that, too.

Anyhow, instead of trying to discourage you, I read a local news story about a fellow here in Greenville, SC.  His business name is JHA Works, check it out.  If I remember correctly, the story said that he had studied/worked with the guy who runs Creative Ironworks, also in Greenville.  Just suggestions that I recently had read about.  I do not know them personally or professionally.  One of them showed a lot of mass production of some scrolled work.  I found it quite interesting.

I could not find the specific HP rating of that motor, but searching for HP rating based on volts/amps, that Craftsman is not even 1/4 HP.

But the pitch of the twist, how many, over that 6 inches will also matter.

I have a 1000+ Lb. bench I got at an auction.  When I last moved it, I used a rolling floor jack to get the one end and middle legs off the floor (concrete).  Then a long pipe for the leverage to shove the two floorbound legs around.  The wheels on the jack helped it to move.

Good choice.  You wouldn't want a friend to get hurt using your practice work if it fails catastrophically.
