  1. my forge got destroyed in a small tornado that happened in Missouri so im still in the process of cleaning out the old work bench full of rusty tools in my shop that came with the house so i can move in the shop where I can protect my stuff
  2. My friend is really into Japanese blades so for his birthday I was thinking of making a kunai from a wrench now I know a wrench is medium carbon but the knife doesn't need to hold an edge just a tip for throwing Is this a good idea
  3. that is a good idea I never thought of that by the way it is around the size of a pineapple or a cantaloupe
  4. I went hiking in Colorado and went hiking on a trail with a lot of black granite. I've seen knives with granite handles in the past an was wondering what the best way to tackle this is? Hidden tang? full tang? will it crack if i drill into it? How should I cut it to shape?
  5. I'm under 18 and my mom has been posting my knives of Facebook and I have a few customers already Also some of my friend are buying my post apocalyptic knives (which are easy because I don't have to shine it)
  6. Went on a hike and found a railroad spike. I'm planning on forging a knife with it to go along with a great memory.
  7. How bought "we forge knives NOT checks so stop asking"
  8. I got a new bed frame and my old one is sitting in my basement. Is it good steel for knife making?
  9. wow how do you polish your knife to a mirror finish
  10. My first fully assembled knife (I'm on a trip in Colorado so I don't have all my tools)
  11. It's an iron oxide that forms during the forging process and is food safe just make sure you wash it before use Also the iron oxide is good because it protects the steel from corrosion (but be careful about the shiny part as it will still corrode if not treated properly) The iron oxide layer also just looks good because it says, "Yeah this knife was hand forged!!!" or it can give the blade a post apocalyptic vibe to it
  12. I did stick it in a camp fire to dry out the wood so I might just have to do an edge quench I think I'm going to make it a hatchet
  13. Thanks! My Dad always says the best place to look for helping hand is at the end of your own arm
  14. So when we first bought our house my grandpa came over to see it and me and him were chopping wood with an old ax that came with the house well anyway the ax head broke off and so we just left it there. I just remembered about it so took my metal detector and found it 6 inches under ground I was able to remove the rotten wood handle still left in it and now I plan to turn it into a hatchet or reforge it into a battle ax It's been sitting in the dirt for 6 years. Is it still good? Any suggestions?
  15. wow those are good you should make a goblet Haven't been able to forge lately because of end of year finals: however, I did carve this for my grandparents ski cabin in steamboat Colorado for my grandpas birthday
